Richard Simpson Obituary, Death – Richard A. “Dick” Simpson, 76, of Hanover Street, Northumberland, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 18, 2023. Dick was born on April 16, 1947, in Sunbury, the beloved son of the late John F. and E. Jane (Gass) Simpson. He was a proud graduate of the last class of Northumberland High School in 1965.
Dick’s commitment to service was evident in his military service, proudly serving in the Navy Reserves on active duty from July 20, 1965, until September 19, 1967. A dedicated licensed funeral director, Dick devoted many years of service to the Zweier Funeral Home and Blank Funeral Home of Sunbury, as well as the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, Northumberland. He also served the community as a Northumberland County deputy coroner.
In his leisure time, Dick enjoyed golfing and nurturing his flower beds. Dick is survived by his son, Sean M. Deiter Sr., and wife Tonya; daughter, Shannon Reed; grandson, Sean M. Deiter Jr.; brother, Jack H. Simpson; and two sisters, Cynthia Ann Simpson and Sandra S. Heintzelman. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald L. Simpson, and a sister, Helen Elizabeth “Beth” Maki.
Interment with military honors will take place in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Dick’s memory be made to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, 3301 Wahoo Dr., Williamsport, PA 17701-9205, memo: Northumberland County Veteran’s Share or to the Sunbury Fire Department Memorial Committee, c/o: Dan Saxton, Treasurer, 1001 Edison Ave., Sunbury, PA 17801. Arrangements are by the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated and compassionate individual whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
